The day I gave my first real life interview was January 28th, 2018. I was disgustingly late and my iPhone stopped recording after 10 minutes. Luckily, my interviewee is as forgiving as he is creative.

Joshua De Lanoit is a fresh University of Iowa alum, graduating with a degree in English and Cinematic Arts. I discovered Joshua by proxy of my Instagram addiction. Upon first glance at his profile’s colorful mirage of visual anecdotes, I could hardly believe an artist so fitted to my favorite psyche rock aesthetics lived in such close proximity (up the street in fact). I knew immediately I needed to speak with the man.

Recently, Joshua has been gaining recognition for his music videos. While only having three official music videos under his belt, it is decidedly clear that he has far surpassed the realm of amateur. His most recent work features local artist Dizzy Bridges and is visually on par with the likes of Becky and Joe, the masterminds behind Tame Impala’s “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” video.

Whether it’s animated psychedelia or an ode to the texture of nature, Joshua has an eye for both complex and simple beauty. After talking music in great length, it was obvious he also has an ear for good music. A humble man with humble beginnings (cinematic roots cited as Youtube videos with the squad), Joshua is an artist that you can’t help but root for.

If you are an aspiring artist, I suggest you find Joshua and pay him a lot of money for a music video because whatever he would charge you is not enough.
