SCOPE Productions is excited to team up with Hancher Auditorium once again for the Fall Welcome Concert. Join us on Thursday, August 29, for a night of music, featuring the fusion electronica sounds of Reyna Tropical, heartfelt Americana tunes of Dawes, and feel-good jazz guitar of Cory Wong.

Opener Reyna Tropical, led by songwriter and producer Fabi Reyna, weaves Southern global rhythms from Colombia, Congo, Mexico, and Peru with lush electronic production. Reyna Tropical’s 2024 album, Malegría, explores themes of exile, displacement, and uncertainty within the Latin American diaspora. The use of natural sounds in their audio landscape grounds listeners, inviting self-reflection onto our own experiences. As described by Pitchfork, Reyna Tropical “glides fluidly between genres, settling in the space in between.”
Dawes’ cadence is fresh but timeless. The band draws from the deep well of California-based classic folk, taking inspiration from classic figures like Joni Mitchell and Neil Young (All Music), and transforms it into a contemporary sound. Dawes’ 2015 album All Your Favorite Bands debuted at number one on Billboard's Folk Albums chart and 2016’s We’re All Gonna Die carried the accolades (Billboard). Dawes’ sound holds a certain nostalgia, encouraging the audience to savor each moment, which perfectly compliments our night!
Cory Wong returns to Iowa City, after his past performance at the 2021 Iowa City Jazz Festival. His guitar work is both intentional and playful, guaranteed to get you on your feet and grooving. Known for his collaborations with Vulfpeck and Jon Batiste, Wong has been described as “...Not only a new breed of guitar hero, but a true entertainer” (Premier Guitar). Cory Wong is here to deliver the funk and provide the perfect feel-good finale to this unforgettable evening.
The Hawkeye Drumline will be performing in-between Dawes and Cory Wong! Make sure to bring your chairs, blankets, and friends to witness this incredible night of music.
